The Black Entrepreneur Programme
Kinaraa, in collaboration with Lewisham Council’s Economic Development Service and Big O Coaching, developed a pioneering programme to explore and test a framework for Black enterprise development. This initiative aimed to enhance the financial and strategic growth of 20 local Black entrepreneurs and their businesses. It emerged in response to the needs highlighted by the Covid-19 pandemic within the local Black third sector, a sector that plays a crucial role in the community yet struggles to secure contracts and funding.
The Black Entrepreneur Programme ran for 6 months and delivered tailored one to one business coaching and group sessions to social entrepreneurs alongside mainstream work for high street businesses, to develop their leadership within their organisations. The programme was met with overwhelming interest and positive feedback. Many of the attendees reported gaining clarity, confidence, and improved skills in planning and goal-setting. Owing to its success, a similar programme is set to run again this year, continuing its mission to empower Black businesses in the voluntary and community sector and ensure their essential work thrives.
